The return of the PanAm Aquatics Swimming Championships to Santo Domingo reinforces the organization’s commitment to delivering world-class continental events that bring together the Americas’ top athletes while continuing to strengthen the competitive pathway leading to international competition.
Together, these championships will create new opportunities for athletes, coaches, technical officials, and National Federations to gain valuable experience, benchmark performance, and continue raising the standard of swimming across the region. By expanding the continental calendar and curating our approach to event development, PanAm Aquatics is ensuring that athletes have greater access to high-level racing environments that prepare them for success on the world stage while fostering the long-term growth of the sport throughout the Americas.
These championships represent much more than additions to our competition calendar. They are an investment in the future of swimming across the Americas. By expanding opportunities for our athletes to compete at the highest continental level, we are strengthening the development pathway, creating new experiences for our members, and continuing to elevate our sport throughout the region.
“I am incredibly proud of the work our PanAm Aquatics team has done to build a competition calendar that not only aligns with the World Aquatics calendar, but also responds to the needs of our region and our athletes. Reaching a point where we can confirm hosts one and a half to two years in advance is a significant step forward for aquatics in the Americas.
From the beginning, one of our priorities was to create events that serve a clear purpose within the athlete development pathway. We wanted our championships to be world-class, but also strategically positioned within the international calendar. With the introduction of our Short Course Championships in a year when World Aquatics also hosts a short course event, and with the 2028 PanAm Aquatics Swimming Championships serving as the final Olympic qualification opportunity in our continent, we have achieved exactly that.
I am deeply grateful to the National Federations of Chile and the Dominican Republic for their vision, commitment, and willingness to host these events so far in advance. Their dedication demonstrates a shared commitment to excellence, and this extended preparation time will allow them to deliver outstanding championships for our athletes and the entire aquatic community.”
